Panel discussed whether the first element was rosyn ‘little hillspur’ {ros ‘hillspur’ + -yn diminutive suffix} or ros an {ros ‘hillspur’ + an ‘the’}. The 1317 spelling Rosenhoern suggests Cornish horn ‘iron’, perhaps used to describe ‘hard ground’. Alternatively, it may have been a Celtic personal name — Hoern.
