Historic forms: 
The settlement of Carblake is first recorded in 1436 (b1). The name is Cornish and contains the elements ker meaning 'fort or a round' and bleit meaning 'wolf' (b2). Carblake may refer to an alleged round at SX 1152 7082 (17006). The settlement is sub-divided into Higher Carblake and Lower Carblake (17021.2) on the 1st Edition 1" OS map of 1809. Higher Carblake is recorded on the modern OS Mastermap 2007 and from the mapping the settlement has been partially redeveloped in the C20 with agriculture buildings. It is not known Higher Carblake is the site of the earlier settlement.
